The Curse of Trasmoz

I have the feeling I am cursed for not installing an emulator, but here we are.

The Curse of Trasmoz is a ZX Spectrum adventure platforming game created by Volcano Bytes, an indie and retro game developer. Now some might be a tad confused since the term ‘ZX Spectrum’ has come up a few times, but essentially it was a revolutionary computer released back in the 1980s that was extremely affordable which allowed many to witness colour video games and learn programming languages. The Curse of Trasmoz specifically attempted to utilize the limitations of the older system to recreate the feeling of retro gaming, and it can be run via cassette/floppy disk for those that may still have the old system. If that system eludes you, then an emulator will also work, but as mentioned earlier I lacked the emulator upon starting this page and as you’ll see I’ve begun to regret it somewhat. Those wanting to return to the past glory days will definitely want to try this out.

Loopy Lore

In a twist of events, Loopy Lore is not necessarily a tabletop RPG system but more of a tabletop RPG card game. Created by CappuccinoGuil, a producer out of Sao Paolo, players will be crafting a story with friends through cards in order to reach a collective goal. Players take turns as the ‘narrator’ of the story, utilizing the cards placed blindly to improvise the current story beats and events while being timed. It’s a massive game of co-operative improv through constantly directed and ‘built’ prompts, giving way to crazy stories and bizarre justifications just so that players can all reach the predestined goal set out at the beginning. How will a murderous samurai celebrate a baby shower? Who knows? That’s the fun of it all. Think of this as either the greatest improv party game, or a fantastic way of storyboarding new ideas for plots. The world is your oyster.

Mausritter

A more ‘traditional’ TTRPG, Mausritter is a rules-light adventure created by Losing Games, a solo dev based out of Australia. Players are taking up the mantle as brave mouse adventurers in this land, utilizing a rapid character creator that allows for players to get in to game quickly while still feeling a sense of creation. Many of the major elements are tied to the card-based inventory system that allows for players to keep their inventory clean, while decision making is simplified but remains varied. It’s a perfect system to bring to those that don’t want the crunch of thicker TTRPGs but still want to enjoy the environments and world-building that can be created.

Jumpin’ Jupiter : Prelude (ZX Spectrum)

This was what I was meaning.

Jumpin’ Jupiter: Prelude is a sort of ‘prequel’ or, well, prelude, created by Quantum Sheep, an indie developer previously known for mobile titles. As one might expect from the title, this is a platformer created for the ZX Spectrum to harken back to those older days. This version features the first 15 levels that Jupiter, the heroine, must overcome to reacquire all of the tea that was scattered across the solar system. If you have an emulator, this would be a fantastic way to relive those older styles of games, and if you enjoy it there’s a main version of the game linked on the page as well.

Bandit Hideout Paper Miniatures Set

Created by Raul Volpato, Bandit Hideout Paper Miniatures are exactly what they sound like; cut-out paper miniatures to print, prop and paint/colour. For those of us that can’t always afford those fancy plastic minis, these are a fantastic substitute for TTRPGs and even other board games that ask for minis that you may not have lying around.

THE OLD WINDMILL — GAME TILESET

Wrapping up this page is The Old Windmill tileset by ludicarts. Included are 159 terrain tiles, with a bunch of different objects and animated pieces to spice up a relaxing and breezy-looking environment. The spritesheet is included, and thanks to the inclusion of 3 different sizes you can utilize this in multiple settings without having to worry about scaling.
